IDEA Den

A guide for the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Awareness Den on the 1st floor of the library - a place for contemplation & discovery

Introduction

The United States Constitution was established on September 17th, 1787 as a set of fundamental principles and visions the founding fathers had for the future of the United States. It expresses a generalized structure for government, while emphasizing a commitment to the pursuit of liberty, equality, and democracy. These values, and more specifically how to demonstrate them in our politics and policies, are a source of contention in modern day America. This IDEA Den exhibit features items that grapple with this conversation, including recent works of scholarship, older texts from the alternative library representative of how these conversations have repeated over the years, and zines made by Salem State students themselves. It goes beyond the constitution and into exploration of its guiding concepts, including, but not limited to, democracy, free speech, voting, political science theory, and freedom.
