North of Boston Library Exchange Link

  • The North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE) catalog shows books available at Salem State and some 40 area libraries.
    • NOBLE extends from Saugus, Stoneham, and Melrose in the south to Gloucester and Merrimack College in the north.
    • Holds can be placed on print books found in other libraries.  
      • Items can be picked up or delivered to Salem State on the NOBLE bookmobile.

Finding Books by and about Catharine Sedgwick in the NOBLE Library Network (Berry Library and Neighboring Institutions)

  • Step One:
    • Find the right place to search holdings of Berry Library and other libraries in the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE):
      • clicking the tab "Books, Media, & More" 
      • then, click "Advanced Search."
      • For example:
  • Step Two:
    • Enter search terms as indicated in the screen shot. 
    • Limit the search to "All Books."
    • Search for books in all NOBLE libraries.
      • This gives you more results than limiting to Salem State's holdings.
      • You can always request books that are held in other libraries via the Interlibrary Loan Service.
    • For example:

    • Carefully look at the results. 
    • Notice that the list includes books that Sedgwick wrote, along with books of criticisms. 
    • Notice ways to narrow the result list in the left margin.
    • For instance:

    • Consult the bibliographies at the end of books you consult to identify more resources.
    • Search for these resources in the NOBLE Catalog to see if they are held in the Berry Library.
    • Use Interlibrary Loan to request items that are held in other libraries.
