The Black Family | A Collaboration with SOC 305

The IDEA Den's May theme is The Black Family and is done in collaboration with the students of Professor Tiffany Chenault’s course SOC 305 The Black Family in the U.S.

Students in SOC 305 read fiction and non-fiction books, exploring stories relating to Black families’ experience.  They engaged in critical thinking to better understand sociological themes and how they tie into real or fictional life experiences.  Students used visual literacy and information literacy skills to create persuasive book talks in order to communicate the meaning of their stories and the connections to sociological thinking to a larger audience.
