Academic Search Complete Search Example
- Academic Search Complete is a good starting place, but will not cover history as extensively as JSTOR and Historical Abstracts.
- This search example shows its limitations.
- Find Academic Search Complete in the Alphabetical list of databases or in the "Most Popular" database list.
- Go to "Advanced Search."
- This lets you enter terms for boolean searches (things that are conjoined by "AND")
- And, it lets you switch out terms to refine results
- Once you run a search, limit results by checking the "Full text" and "Scholarly" selections in the left margins.
- This will limit results to only those articles available at Salem State and those that are peer reviewed.
- Once you find some full text articles, you may want to expand your search to ones that are not held by Salem State.
- Ways to refine your results:
- Switch out terms: Middle Ages for Medieval, etc.
- Increase precision by changing the drop down selections to the right of your search terms to limit the search to "Abstract" or "Subject."
