Keyword Search Strategies
- Library databases often use outdated terms to describe Latinx or Chicanx literature.
- Because of the expense involved in changing database terminology, most database producers will keep older subject headings for older records and ascribe new terms to new items.
How do you deal with this?
- To make sure you find all possible articles on Latinx and Chicanx literature, search for both new terms and older terms.
- Possible older terms are:
- Latine
- Latino or Latina
- Chicano or Chicana
- Latin American
- Spanish American
- Hispanic American
- Mexican American
- Puerto Rican
- Cuban American
