Search strategies and finding articles

Examining a Citation and Setting Search Limits

  • This is a citation from a search in Academic Search Premier for "exposition."
  • Notice how I did a Boolean AND search with exposition and writing.
  • The citation of the article is encircled, along with subject headings. These show how the article is listed in the database. If you like this article, click on one of these headings to find more like it.
  • The arrow on the left calls attention to the PDF link for the complete article.

Same Citation, Close Up of Tools on Right Side

  • To the right of each citation in Academic Search Premier (and all other EBSCO databases) are tools for printing, saving, emailing, and citing references:

Revise Search Option

  • Clicking "Revise Search" here will lead to a window for limiting to full-text, a date range, etc.

Key Elements of Refine Search Page

  • Two essential elements to click are:
    • Scholarly
      • Will limit your search to higher level academic journals
    • Full text
      • Will limit your search to those available in full text on the library's systems
