Other Pro-Tips for Doing Research

Getting to Online Library Resources When You Are Off-Campus

All these wonderful library resources are provided to you because you are a student at Salem State University. How does the Internet know that? Well, sometimes it knows because you are using a computer on campus, but other times, you need to login to get to the good stuff. Just remember that whenever you see this (not very user friendly) message...

Login screen with link to SSO

...make sure you click on Login with SSOThat will either bring you right into the resource if you are ALREADY logged into a campus resource in another tab, like your email or Canvas OR it will bring you to the familiar SSU login screen that you usually see to log into Canvas. By the way, in case you didn't know, SSO means "Single Sign On" and refers to your one SSU username/password to rule them all.

When Berry Library Doesn't Have It: Using InterLibrary Loan (ILL)

Want to be a next-level library user? Know what Interlibrary Loan is.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows you to request library materials from other libraries when our library doesn't have it. The service is available to current students, faculty, and staff.

Go to Salem State University Interlibrary Loan to learn more and to make a request.

Make Sure the Library is Open

Be aware of the hours of the library when you're in the middle of a big research project. The main part of the library (with all the books) is open until 9 PM most evenings. The lobby study areas are open until midnight, but that won't help you if you need a book on the shelf!

Always check the Library Hours page first before you plan on spending time here.
