Accessing Full Text of Journals from Off Campus

Step One: To to "Journal Title Search" on the Library Home Page

  • "Journal Title Search:"
    • Is one of the search options on the search box on the library web page (www.salemstate.edulibrary):

Step Two: Enter the Name of the Journal

Steps:

  • Select/click on the tab "Journal Title Search."
    • The tab for "Journal Title Search" will change color to show that it was selected.
  • Enter the title of the journal/newspaper/magazine you are want to read in the search box below.
  • Press "Go."

 

Step Three: Interpret the Search Results

Results of a "Journal Title List" search show:

  • Whether the library owns a particular title
    • If it does, a list of databases that carry the title appear
    • If it does not, the system will tell you
  • The names of library databases that carry the full text for this journal title

Step Four: Select a Database to View Full Text

  • Any of the databases will provide full text.
  • For this tutorial, we will search "Proquest Central."

Step Five: Enter Salem State Credentials in the Proxy Server

Step Six: Search the Journal

  • The journal will appear once you enter your SSU credentials and press enter.
  • Enter terms in the search box to see what has been published on a specific topic.
  • You can also "browse" through specific issues by adjusting the drop down menu to the left of the search box.
