Search Makeover: "The Rocking Horse Winner" and Criticism
- The Problem:
- I am not satisfied with the results of my Academic Search Premier search for "The Rocking Horse Winner" and criticism.
- Although the search was executed well, I only found the first three useful.
- I need to find a bigger selection!
- Strategy A:
- Try other key words from the titles of the articles we did find:
- "Rocking Horse Winner" and death
- "Rocking Horse Winner" and allegory
- Be persistent in scrolling through new search results to find an article you like
- Click on the subject headings in this article to link to similar articles
- Strategy B:
- Execute a "Field Search."
- Change the drop-down menu to the right of the search terms to "Abstract." This will bring up articles with these terms in the abstract.
- This increases the relevancy of your search.
- Strategy C:
- Change databases!
- Though Academic Search Premier is a legitimate database, it will not have as many articles on literature as JSTOR and the MLA International Bibliography.
- Try your search in these databases next!
Example: Search Makeover: "The Rocking Horse Winner"
- New database: MLA International Bibliography
- Kept "The Rocking Horse Winner," but accepted MLA's suggested terms: "criticism or critique or review or analysis or interpretation"
