The Berry Library presents “In The News,” an exhibit of selected historic photographs from the recently acquired Salem News Historic Photograph Collection. The Salem Evening News was founded in October 1880 by Salemite, Robin Damon. Many of the newspaper’s earliest images document pivotal events in Salem’s history such as The Great Salem Fire of 1914, The World War II homefront, and celebrations like Salem’s 1926 Tercentenary observance.
Curated by Archivist Susan Edwards and Archives Assistant Jen Ratliff, this exhibit showcases newspaper photographs from throughout the 20th century that exemplify the history, events, and people of Salem and Essex County, including this image from the 11-day Salem Teachers Strike in 1994.
See more photographs from the exhibit on display in the Periodical Room on the first floor of Berry Library on the Salem State University campus.
