Center for Childhood and Youth (CCYS) Film Discussion Series

About:  A film series (averaging 2-4 films annually) using the library’s collections & run by a librarian member of Salem State University's CCYS.  Events include a film screening and thought-provoking discussion led by an engaging faculty expert or panel.  Community groups and alumni have been a part of discussion panels as well.  The series is designed to stimulate discussion and awareness of issues relating to childhood and the well-being of children and youth.  Free and open to the public.  (Typical event run-time 1.5-2 hours.)  2012-present.

Outcomes:

  • Stimulate discussion & awareness of social justice issues relating to the well-being of children and youth
  • Bring together interdisciplinary faculty and students with campus and community-based groups
  • Improve library film collections surrounding social justice issues related to youth
  • Promote library collections through their use in the series
  • Increase visibility of the Center for Childhood and Youth Studies by adding to its programming
