Off-Campus Access to Library Resources:
Use your Salem State network/wireless network (also known as Windows/SSCAD and VPN) user name and password to log into library databases (such as CINAHL), periodicals, and ebooks from home. All resources are available through the library's web page: http://www.salemstate.edu/library
Don't know your user name and password?
Students - please see IT's page for: Student password reset.
Faculty/Staff - log into Navigator for your user name and password.
Note: All password resets may be done on and off-campus and do not require access to the Salem State wireless network.
The first week of our Summer Bridge Information Literacy class will get us moving around the library in a version of the Amazing Race!
Here are the rules:
The Amazing Race – Library Edition
Object of the Game
Be the first team to reach the “Final Destination” and successfully complete each of the tasks assigned. Each of the “Route Clues” you receive will provide you with instruction on what you will need to bring to the final destination as proof of your completion of each of the challenges.
Contents of your “Travel Kit”:
Map of the library
Web address of the library’s website
Your first “Route Clue”
A “Fast Forward” pass
Rules of the Game:
If you have any questions about the game, you can come back to the library instruction room and I will resolve any problems you encounter. You should come back to the room if you get stuck on a question and need help!
The Fast Forward pass will allow you to get help with a task from a librarian or library staff member. The Fast Forward pass you get can only be used once.
In order to win, you will need to be the first group to reach the “final Destination” (instruction room” and have completed all of the tasks correctly. If the first team to finish has made any errors, the second team to finish has the opportunity to win the game, etc.
You will present your “findings” to the other groups after all teams have completed their tasks. Please be prepared to discuss your answers and how you found them.
At the end of the game, you should feel more comfortable using and finding research tools to locate multiple types of information sources in lots of different formats.
